Naturally, when Arlena is murdered whilst sunbathing, the suspect list is rather long. In addition to these escapades, Arlena is also carrying on an extremely obvious affair with the slick gigolo type, Patrick Redfern (played by Nicholas Clay), much to the chagrin of Kenneth, and Patrick’s mousey wife, Christine (played by Jane Birkin). It seems that the famous stage actress, Arlena Marshall (played by Diana Rigg), has run off with Blatt’s incredibly valuable jewel, and is going to Daphne’s island with her new husband, Kenneth (Denis Quiley), the man she left Blatt for. These include Poirot (of course), who is investigating the attempted insurance fraud perpetrated by the rather “common” Sir Horace Blatt (played by Colin Blakely). ![]() Dust jacket illustration of the first UK release of the novel in 1941 which sold for 7/6.Ī veritable cast of characters come together on the very exclusive resort island, run by Daphne Castle (played by Maggie Smith). ![]()

As in Undsets other fiction, however, Ida Elisabeth poignantly illustrates how poor choices affect the course of a persons life and how the suffering endured because of grievous mistakes can become the means by which a love is purified. Unlike Undsets famous historical novels, which are set in medieval Norway, the story of Ida Elisabeth unfolds in the 1920s. As she contemplates marrying again, Frithjof, now gravely sick, reenters her life. Still young and good looking, the admirably hardworking Ida Elisabeth attracts the attention of a successful lawyer, who possesses the manly virtues that her husband lacked. The single mother moves with her children to a small town. When Frithjof becomes involved with another woman, Ida Elisabeth divorces him. Early in their marriage, she realizes that her charming husband is too irresponsible to support the family and sews dresses to make ends meet. In an effort to redeem her reputation, Ida Elisabeth imprudently marries her teenage sweetheart, Frithjof. ![]() ![]() ![]() The essex serpent book review5/30/2023 ![]() She is also fascinated by the local vicar, (Tom Hiddleston, still my true love), who is married to the perfect wife and mother and friend Stella (Clémence Poésy). ![]() Cora is fascinated by recent rumors of the Essex Serpent. She gathers up her son and her companion, Martha, played by Hayley Squires, and makes for the Blackwater Estuary of Essex, a place of tidal mudflats and marshes and channels that lead to open sea. Cora, played by Claire Danes, positively glows with bliss once her tormentor is dead. Our story begins with the death of a horrible man, the abusive husband of Cora Seaborne. But if you aren’t, I get it, because this is terribly slow paced stuff, and worse, it lacks chemistry. My idea of pure happiness on this earthly plane is Claire Danes digging fossils out of cliffs while wearing trousers and a floppy hat, accompanied by Tom Hiddleston in a sweater, so I was down with this for the most part. ![]() The Essex Serpent is slow, pretty, slightly creepy, and sexy in that “I can’t have you so I’ll stare at you with my brooding, metaphorically piercing eyes instead of having sex” sort of way that some people despise and other people adore. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He contended that because “we believed, then, that documentary film had a rigorous and vigorous future,” it was of utmost urgency to save the documentary film from its negative aspects, which, if left unchallenged, would lead to its tragic downfall. ![]() At the outset of his “Manifesto on the Documentary Film,” Oswell Blakeston (born Henry Joseph Hasslacher, 1907–1985)-a prolific British writer, poet, artist, and admirer of poetry, fictional films, literature, photography, experimental cinema, and film criticism-proposed to liberate documentary film from its failings (the worst of which were a dishonest reliance on post-sync and a deceitful imitation of Russian film aesthetics) by means of a single, radical action. ![]() Broken Fate by Willow Winters5/30/2023 ![]() She is a witness to a murder and it's a choice between death and working as a "sex slave". Muffy Newton really understood the characters and the story. I love Jacob Morgan, I wish we could have heard more from Kade. This is something I felt really emotionally invested in even though I disliked Kade. As much as I loved this dark and gritty story, I was kind od hoping that Olivia would move on and be happy without Kade. But at least he realizes that he doesn't deserve her. I think the title is accurate because he broke her like someone would break a wild horse. Rent did not invent edge and shock on Broadway, nor was it the first rock musical or even the first rock opera. ![]() Fans memorized the songs, followed the show on tour, and even wrote fan fiction and created fan art. Rent quickly became a pop culture phenomenon with a devoted following. Given the inaccessible expense of Broadway theater tickets, producers implemented a democratization effort suited to the musical’s themes in what is now a widespread practice: selling $20 rush tickets-first come, first served, for a seat in the first two rows. Its sold-out Off-Broadway run with New York Theatre Workshop made the move to Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre inevitable three months later. Rent was an immediate hit, lauded for broaching the issue of HIV/AIDS, depicting LGBTQ+ identities, and including multiracial representation. ![]() Emerge by tobie easton5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() She stops in front of me, her massive frame towering over mine.
